
Kat Evasco is an award-winning writer, theatermaker, filmmaker, and cultural strategist committed to honoring and celebrating the experiences of immigrants, women and LGBTQ communities. Evasco was recently awarded the AAPI Fund Creative Catalyst Fellowship (2023), the California Arts Council’s Impact Project grant (2023), Gerbode Foundation Theater Awards (2022) and the Kenneth Rainin New & Experimental Works (NEW) Program Grant (2020) towards the development of first ensemble play Be Like Water. Building on the success of her autobiographical one-woman show Mommy Queerest, Evasco supports artists to produce solo shows. Evasco’s solo theater projects include directing Prieto by Yosimar Reyes and Not My First Pandemic by Cesar Cadabes, which received Best One Man Show and All About Solo Critics Award at United Solo Festival 2021, and co-directed Rag Head: An American Story by Sundeep Morrison, winner of Best Drama at the 2022 United Solo Festival. Most recently, she directed the 20-Year Curse by Naomi Ko. As an emerging filmmaker, her projects include the Border Futures Films (2023. 5 documentary short films) and Get Your Tita (2024. Scripted short film).
Prior to founding With You, a cultural and narrative strategy company, Evasco served as the Sr. Program Director at the Center for Cultural Power, leading the design and implementation of the organization’s core programs including the Reclaiming the Border Narrative Project, the Disruptors Fellowship, and the Creative Entrepreneur Series. With You’s clients include the Center for Cultural Power, Cultural Engagement Lab, Brava Women in the Arts, Youth Speaks, and Great Leap. Evasco is an Artist-in-Residence at Brava For Women in the Arts and currently serves on the governing board of Open Television (OTV). She is a 2018 Lambda Literary Fellow in Playwriting and her works have been featured on Deadline, IndieWire, Vice, Shondaland, Bustle, The Advocate, Out Magazine, and NBC News Asian America. Kat holds a BA in Asian American Studies from San Francisco State University.
